U.S. Congressman Names Xi Mingze’s Proposal to Ban the Children of Senior CCP Officials from Studying in the U.S

Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), a Republican in the U.S. Congress, introduced a new bill that would ban Chinese Communist Party officials and their families from entering the U.S. higher education system. Hartzler also disclosed that Xi Mingze, the daughter of Chinese President Xi Jinping, went on to study at the American Institute after completing her undergraduate studies at Harvard University. Hartzler said the United States should not “help those who are actively destroying our country.”
U.S. Congressman Names Xi Mingze’s Proposal to Ban the Children of Senior CCP Officials from Studying in the U.S
Hartzler, a Republican from Missouri, introduced the “Protecting Higher Education from the Chinese Communist Party Act” on the 16th of this month. The bill would bar senior Chinese Communist Party officials and their families from obtaining student and research visas to enter the U.S. higher education system.
“While the Chinese Communist Party is committing genocide and other atrocities, they continue to send their children to the United States for world-class education. This must stop,” Hartzler said in a statement. The Influenced by the CCP Act will put an end to this practice to effectively stop helping those who are actively destroying our country.”
According to the content, the bill would prohibit members of the National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and their families from obtaining student and research visas to the United States. The sanctions against the bill include the general secretary of the Communist Party of China, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, members of the Central Military Commission, members of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and their families.
The bill also specifically states that family members refer to the spouses, children, parents, siblings or grandchildren of CCP officials.
Rep. Hartzler pointed out in a statement that there are about 317,000 Chinese students studying in the United States during the 2020-2021 school year, including Xi Mingze, the daughter of Xi Jinping. “Xi Mingze, daughter of General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Communist Party of China, completed an undergraduate degree at Harvard University in 2014 and re-enrolled in graduate studies in 2019,” Hartzler’s statement read.
The late Harvard professor and East Asia expert Ezra Feivel Vogel said in an exclusive interview with VOA in 2015 that Xi Mingze returned to China after completing his Harvard degree in 2014. Vogue also denied that Xi Mingze received special treatment during his time at Harvard.
Congressional Republicans have recently proposed multiple bills targeting Chinese officials. Earlier this month, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, led several committee Republicans to introduce the Sanctioning Tyrannical and Oppressive People within the Chinese Communist Party. The Chinese Communist Party Act), referred to as the STOP CCP Act, will impose sanctions on all CCP officials.
According to the bill, the sanctions will include “all members” of the National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. 30 days after it goes into effect, the president of the United States will be able to impose sanctions on members of the Communist Party National Congress of the People’s Republic of China and their immediate adult family members, the bill reads. It means that Xi Jinping will face sanctions from the US government, and his family members are also in the sphere of influence.
Sanctions include prohibiting sanctioned targets from using the U.S. financial system, failing to obtain visas to enter the United States, and prohibiting entry into the United States.
However, at present, the majority party in the House of Representatives is controlled by the Democratic Party, which means that it controls the agenda of the House of Representatives. Both the Sanctions of the CCP Act and the Protection of Higher Education from the CCP Act, proposed by the Republican Party, lack the support of Democrats, so it is quite difficult to pass this Congress.
